The Lakes at Castle Rock, a development on Tanque Verde Road east of Catalina Highway, was ready for its grand opening when it was photographed on Oct. 7, 1982. The 260-acre development consisted of 15 man-made lakes covering 23 acres. A six-acre lake was for boating, and an adjacent half-acre lagoon was for swimming. The homes, on half-acre and quarter-acre lots, were priced from $159,500 to $375,000. More than 300 houses were planned for the area.
