The Yucca baccata (Banana Yucca) refers to the large edible fruit pods that are banana-like in shape. The pods, eaten raw, roasted or ground up and made into cakes, were an important source of food for Native Americans. The leaves were used to make mats and baskets.This speciman, also called a Thompson Yucca, was found at the Tohono Chul Park in Tucson, Arizona.
