Hoodoos are irregularly shaped rock features that resemble misshapen pillars, spires, columns, or grotesque, animal-like figures. Layers of rock with different degrees of resistance to erosion can be wrought into very strange shapes by the forces of water or wind or both similar to this formation along the Catalina Highway on the way to Mount Lemmon. Mount Lemmon is in the Santa Catalina Mountains located in the Coronado National Forest north of Tucson, Arizona. It is 9,157 feet above sea-level, and receives approximately 180 inches of snow annually.
