Ed Schieffelin Monument
Working as an Indian scout out of Camp Hauchuca, Ed Schieffelin prospected in his spare time, and eventually near the San Pedro Valley, at a waterless plateau called Goose Flats, he found silver. Having been joshed by soldiers about his rock-collecting to the effect that "The only rock you will find out there will be your own tombstone", Schieffelin decided to name his mining claim the "tombstone." Hence the name - Tombstone, Arizona

Thanks for the info, Tommy. We'll be coming down your way for a weekend in Bisbee soon; we'll have to stop and visit the monument!
