Nice capture Joan! You've done well with a limited amount of light. Try some "fill flash" on your next visit. This should produce a catchlight in the eyes, sharpen the details, and give the image more "pop".

You know I've thought about the flash - it's a dark corner of the tree - I worry that it will be too invasive on the birds with their very young chicks. I've worked pretty hard to get what seems to be a certain acceptance from them. Have you used flash with your birdies?

What a sweet capture! Yeah, I'm finally looking up settings for my 430ex so I can get some babies hiding in a palm tree. Hate to disturb them, but just once...

Flash is OK for the adult birds, but I wouldn't use it on nestlings, or adult hummingbirds on a nest.

Very sweet shot Joan. I like it :)

Great Article Collins. Thanks for the information.

Yes, Collins...that was great. I guess a little fill flash won't hurt...

A new birdsite is being put together after the model of the successful bugguide. Western species are needed. would you consider posting some of yours? http://birdsite.org/media/show/836
