Juneteenth was well under way at Vista Del Pueblo Park and Clyde Harris, left, and Ephraim Brown were taking a break from the festivities. On June 17, 1988, more than 3,000 Tucsonans were taking part in the event which celebrates June 19, 1865, the day slaves in Texas first heard of the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. There were 32 food, information and entertainment booths at the park located near the base of "A" Mountain. The festival concluded with a parade. BRUCE MCCLELLAND / ARIZONA DAILY STAR 1988
