It wasn't the first time that the commanding officer's quarters at old Fort Lowell had to be rebuilt. After the Army abandoned the fort in 1891, the original quarters had crumbled away, like most of the post. The area of the fort is now included in Fort Lowell Park, at East Fort Lowell and North Craycroft roads. In 1963, the county had rebuilt the structure with help from the Junior League, the Pima County Sheriff's Posse and the W.C. Cox Co. and had turned it into a museum.
