Most desert waterfalls dry up and dwindle away during summer. Not so Summer Falls, located 20 miles northeast of Ephrata in Washington's coulee country. The Summer Falls State Park was deserted during our visit but was, nonetheless, very pretty and worth the visit.
The waterfall is created by the Columbia Basin irrigation system. Thus, when the irrigation water is flowing (especially during the heat of summer), the waterfall is booming. During winter, when irrigation is not needed, the waterfall goes dry.
