Clothing designer Vera Maxwell attended "Fashion for the Arts" at the Doubletree Inn on Sept. 22, 1978. The fashion show was sponsored by Goldwaters department store and was a fundraiser for the Arizona Opera, the Tucson Museum of Art and Arizona Theatre Company. Maxwell gave her opinion on fashion: "I hate the word 'fashion.' Fashion is something that describes a fad, a superficiality. A lot of my critics accuse me of designing the same thing year after year. But what I'm interested in is style and quality. And those aren't things that change each year."
