I believe this is a Sphinx moth caterpillar. They have a taste for my Chiltepin pepper plant and even appear to be eating the peppers.

Either the Tomato or the Tabacco Hornworm, they live on Nightshadow plants. Capcaicin, the hot stuff in peppers, is only felt by mammals. Even birds have no receptors for it.
