The Blue Heron is the largest North American heron, with a head-to-tail length of 36-54 in, a wingspan of 71 in, and a weight of 4.8-8 lbs. This handsome fellow was found at the Fort Worth (Texas) Japanese Botanic Gardens (see previous picture) which is the oldest botanic garden in Texas, containing thousands of native and exotic species of plants in over 100 acres of gardens and natural settings. The Garden has many specialty gardens, including the 10,000-square-foot Conservatory, the Rose Gardens, and the Japanese Garden, a 7.5-acre haven of peaceful beauty, featuring waterfalls and pools filled with Koi fish surrounded by beautiful foliage and home to this pretty Blue Heron.
