I spotted this ant clump in the pool this morning.
What do you think... are they ant eggs or oxygen bubbles? Does anyone know?

Quite an army there!

Looks like eggs to me and perhaps some larvae. Something must have happened in the ant nest -- a predator perhaps -- and the ants carried out the kids. How they ended up in the swimming pool is anyone's guess. Very interesting.

I think you are right, Doris. After closer examination, they do look like eggs. I did notice that there were other little clumps in the pool as well.

The larger light colored ones are larvae/pupae, the dark one reflectiones of the shiny heads. few Beetles and true bugs have a physical 'lung'= airbubbles caught in hair or under wings used for diving. Ants don't. They just survive by floating on top of the pile, some in the bottom may drown, but these coldblooded guys don't need much oxigen when they are not active
