Richard... when I try to shoot the moon I generally get a blur. I thought my D70s and a 300 mm lens would solve the problem... haven't touched my film camera in nearly a year... but it didn't. What your secret?!
Howard, well I finally did break down and went out and bought an SLR camera (Canon EOS Rebel EOS Xsi) and a 300mm, two weeks ago. So, I used those with a sturdy tripod, and tried different settings. This was the best of 10 shots...and not sure what the exact setting finally was. It was not Aperture though (too bright). It was either P or Shutter Speed Priority, and I turned the 2-second timer on so I would not shake the camera. Also, I turned the Image Stabilizer off on the lense as that was recommended by the manual. I used both Autofocus and Manual focus. Not sure which with this. Though it seems manual focus has worked better for me.
Bill, well it did...but still only a small part of the whole picture. I had to crop most of the pic out. But relatively speaking, it did bring it close.
Great shot, Richard! Lots of detail and a perfect exposure.
