Pancho Villa Statue in the Veinte De Agosoto Park in downtown Tucson. The Mexican Government gave this statue to the city of Tucson in November 1979.
The Governor of Sonora during the Mexican Revolution, Jose Maria Maytorena came to Tucson to sit out the fighting. Pancho Villa came to Tucson in 1913 to seek funds from Maytorena. He was given $1,000. He paid his hotel bill, and returned to Mexico with nine rifles and nine rented horses.
Eight months later, he controlled the state of Chihuahua.
