The new court at McKale Center was just one final coat of gloss away from being finished on Aug. 8, 1984, but it was not to be. The new floor had to be completely resanded because something had damaged the wood. Inspection revealed little notches or grooves all over the maple floor, possibly caused by something on the bottom of one of the sanding machines. The entire 22,700-square-foot floor had to be redone, and both of the newly painted logos repainted. The cost was assumed by the flooring company.
