BRUCE MCCLELLAND / ARIZONA DAILY STAR 1989
Bear Down Gymnasium needed a new floor. Even though McKale Center, which opened in 1973, had replaced Bear Down as the home of UA men's basketball, Bear Down continued to be an important school facility. But, she was showing her age. On Aug. 15, 1989, workmen were replacing the original, 63-year-old floor as part of a $150,000 renovation. The work, which included a new roof, was going to be paid for, in part, by selling one-foot sections of the old floor.

A very tough job. Did the fundraising plan work (selling one-foot sections)?
