On May 17, 1977, during the Women's Southwestern Golf Championships, this aquatic creature was spotted in the pond guarding the par-three 12th hole at Tucson Country Club. Possibly to prevent panic from spreading throughout the community, the tournament organizers claimed they had decorated the course's water hazards with boats and fish to wish the golfers "Smooth Sailing in the Desert."
