Tucson High shortstop and local baseball great Ron Hassey continued a family tradition on May 22, 1972, when he committed to playing baseball for the University of Arizona. With a smiling coach Jerry Kindall, left, showing him the dotted line, Hassey signed a national letter of intent to attend the UA. Hassey's father, Bill, who lettered in baseball at Tucson High and the UA, looks over his son's shoulder, with assistant UA baseball coach Jim Wing at right. Hassey went on to a 12-year Major League Baseball career, playing for Cleveland and Oakland, among other teams.
