For several days in June 1977, Tucson was the place to be for science-fiction fans from around the world. Some called it "The Event of the Millennium," but it was really the 1977 Science Fiction Horror and Fantasy World Exposition. Celebrities, including scientist and author Carl Sagan and film director Robert Wise, joined with other science-fiction buffs for talks, movies, exhibits and vendor displays. Security for the event was provided by an 11-member team called the Dorsai Irregulars.
