The Superstition Mountains in Lost Dutchman State Park turn firery red as sun sets opposite.
Located 5 miles NE of Apache Junction on the Apache trail, the park is name for Jacob Waltz, the legendary Lost Dutchman who stumbled out of the Superstitions more than a century ago with a tale of a fabulously rich gold mine. Unfortunately, Waltz died without ever revealing the location, sparking 100 years of speculative mining, bogus maps and additional legends.
