Road construction is one of those annoying facts of urban life. But sometimes, it is good to look back and remember just what it was like before the construction began. On July 5, 1977, workers were starting a nine-month project to widen Tanque Verde Road from East Pima Street to North Sabino Canyon Road. The improvement was to cost $1.86 million. This "before" photo is looking northeast from the Tanque Verde intersection with East Grant Road. The following month, work was to begin extending North Kolb Road from Speedway to Grant.
