Tarantula climbed onto a colorful rock in my yard today. For me, this was an exciting event and the first time I have seen one up close and personal!

Great photo. Love the background as well as the handsome tarantula. This sure looks like a male. The telling feature are the hooks - one on each front leg. That means it's an adult male. They're the ones you see most often. The tarantula in my photo may well be a female. This one's been captive for years and is used in Audubon nature programs. You really can't know until the male sheds for the last time and it has the hooks and is darker.
